the black & white compass on the left of yesterday's collage (below on the right) was jarring, & distracted from the collage as a whole. so today i made a small revision & replaced it with a piece cut from one of my studies of huang tingjian's calligraphy. the original is on the right below, today's version on the left. 

when your eye keeps going to one area of a painting, it's usually a sign that area hasn't integrated into the energy of the whole. if you click on the image below left, then on the right arrow and do that rapidly a number of times, you'll see what I mean.
