figures in doorway VII, 25x25” oil on portrait linen
2:10 PM: i had one freshly stretched 25x25” portrait linen canvas left, and i made figures in doorway VII. it contains many of the elements from the previous figures in doorway series: the leaves on the left, the 2 figures and the checkerboard b&w patterning. as i gaze at it now on my East studio wall, it benefits from all that preceded it, but strikes a new note. the blue on the upper right, inspired by an abstraction i discovered in my storage space, works with the greens and the vertical orangy yellow ochre vertical and pinks create a richness that could not have happened without the previous ones. at first, i worked on it as it hung on the wall, moving my palette and brushes over to that side of the 2 tables. as usual, there are sexual hints; i can’t seem to live without them.
