2:13 PM: inspired by a photo from above i took years ago of a dear friend named karen, i commenced a new 25x25” painting today. the photo was shot during the period, which lasted years, that i was obsessed with views from above. i have hundreds of these photos in my collection, one of which i’m referrring to today.
for the umpteenth time, i’ll tell you just how magical this extra fine ARTFIX portrait linen is when painting in oils. as usual, i stopped at 2pm, when my inner voice let me know i had run out of steam for the day.
i love the colors i mixed ; the blues, greys and reds, so i found a topless cardboard box to put over my palette, so that they stay relatively moist when i start painting again tomorrow morning.
as usual, we’re expecting possible thunderstorms later this afternoon into early evening, so right now it’s clouding over. these afternoon storms are terrific. as a lifelong weather enthusiast, i look forward to them, to their drama, and to the cooling down effect they have, rapidly dropping the temperature from the ‘80’s to the ‘70’s and, after sunset, the ‘60’s.
