2:24 PM: continuing the collage series i’ve been creating, today i made 10/13/26 doorway collage, which was inspired by the photos i’ve referred to in earlier pieces with one or more figures in a doorway. this one also has a few goldfish.
the 20x12.25” dimensions work better for me than the previous two, which are more rectangular, as i sit gazing at them from mikela’s comfortable rocking chair while she’s out working in the valley schools.
i’ve been using the contents of a large cardboard box filled with scraps of old drawings, collages and cut up articles as materials for the collages, providing the randomness and unpredictability i so love. this one also has more white space, allowing the piece to breathe as well as giving the viewer’s eye places to rest as it moves over the composition.
this is a good example of the painterly qualities in my work that have developed and evolved over decades, and clearly reflect my love for deKooning, matisse, tsarouchis & vuillard to name just a few of the masters whose work i’ve studied.
mikela is out till about 5:30, and the rain is forecast to begin at about 4. it’s now 2:50pm, so i may be heading back to the house just when it begins. the gusty winds have already kicked in.
