precinct, 32x36” oil on portrait linen, as she looked following this morning’s session
1:38 PM: today i took precinct to the next stage of development, moving slowly. i’m working on my painting table on this unstretched piece of portrait linen, and every so often i tack it to my east painting wall, sit in my reclining black chair and check out what i just did. the most obvious addition is the yellow on the right.
in a spare composition like this, little things make a difference. for example, the bit of red in the upper middle area, which is a fire extinguisher, plays a significant roll in the compostion.
