5/27/25 ano kato, 32×36” oil on portrait linen, as she looked at the end of my painting day today
2:42 PM: as you can see, i did quite a bit more work on the new 5/27/25 ano kato today. i spent pretty much my entire working day on this painting, which, i’d like to believe, takes my familiar figures to a higher level. the guy on the left doing a handstand has not yet entered the picture in this series, however his relationship to the figures on the right sheds a new light on him.what is their relationship, other than they all find themselves in a tarlow painting?
in 5/2/25 ano kato for example, the 3 figures are sufficiently scraped over that they bear a strong resemblence to one another; they’re like buddies caught in a pinkish wash of paint. in a way, this one may be the most evolved in the series. we are not caught up in the descriptive realist trap; rather we are drawn into a painterly event….an event which happens to revolve arounf 3 figures of undetermined sex, in a geometric, architectural environment. you can’t do it every time, but it takes guts to bring a painting to this level; guts and a bit of luck.
5/27/25 ano kato has a ways to go if she wants to join that club.
