8:13 PM: dan has been collecting keys since he was a child. we had never seen his collection, which is impressive. now that he's settling into life in his new home, we made a joint decision to hang some of his collection on that hanging rack above the island in the kitchen normally reserved for pots & pans. together we selected and hung some of the keys, admiring them first on the kitchen counter. one was a large lock & key once used by the pony express to lock the mail sacks.
