9:34 PM: way too tired to continue; more tomorrow...

we returned from denver an hour ago, just as the sun was setting, casting a warm light on crestone peak. 

i'm looking more and more deeply at vermeer and how optics influenced his paintings. my friend david hockney wrote a book about this, suggesting that vermeer was not alone in his use of optics as a visual aide. i think he's right. what interests me right now is how the camera obscura allowed him to break the image up. here you see a detail of vermeer's the art of painting.above: a detail of the crestone peak sunset shot. second row: detail of vermeer's the art of painting
