3:53 pm update: the drawing for parade 43, 12x56" is almost complete. it's based on photos i shot yesterday at the alamosa summerfest on the rio, held on the banks of the rio grande. the scene went far beyond my expectations of what i might find as raw material for my parade series. i had not anticipated there would be kayaking on the river, and that the whole monet-esque scene would be clearly visible from a bridge over the river. parade 43 will be based on one of these photographs, which turns me on for many reasons: color, patterning, and the interaction between father and son which, in this image, strikes a distinctly archetypal chord.

our main reason for being at the festival was to help man the slv summer camp booth, answer questions and take new enrollments. the camp is enrolling well, and most of the classes already have enough participants to make them a go, and a few, like robot making, are very popular and already full. the class i'm co-teaching with my friend, scottish professional photographer martin, who also lives in crestone, is almost fully enrolled, and we're meeting over dinner on tuesday to strategize about what we'll be doing in that class. it will be very much hands-on, with the 8 kids using cameras we provide to shoot and then edit.
depending on how much more work i can complete this afternoon, i may be able to start painting parade 43 tomorrow.
this warning was issued this morning for the town of crestone and surrounding area:
i have been posting images and a YouTube video:

over the past few weeks, about dangerously and rapidly rising water in north crestone creek. this morning this warning was issued by the national weather service and included in today's weather report by our local weather reporter, keno.
9 am update: now that we're back from the alamosa summerfest, i'll be heading to my studio to evaluate images i shot from a bridge, overlooking kayakers in the river to determine which, if any images are candidates for my next parade series painting: parade 43. below is an example of one of these photographs:
