3:08 pm update: ABOVE: parade 44 at 3pm. slowly, slowly i am progressing with this painting. why try to create drama, poetry, when it exists everywhere?
THE EXTREME SEXINESS OF OIL COLORS
below are some shots i took this morning. just look at the colors on the palette. juicy, sexy, good enough to eat. on the upper left, my tubes of grey. i love grey. next to them, some of the grey squeezed out on the paper palette. and on row two, yesterday's palette, with a detail. on the right: i save many of these in a small filing cabinet, where they can dry, for future use in the abstract collages i'll be showing at space gallery in denver next spring.
we'll take our 6am walk again tomorrow, but i'm going to get straight to work, so that i can get more done on parade 44 before exhaustion sets in.
1:30 pm update:ABOVE: parade 44 at about 1 pm.
it's been a long day; we were up at 5 and took our walk before sunrise to avoid the mosquitoes. after making mikela two stellar thermoses of coffee, i went to the post office to mail a couple of packages, went to the grocery store and finally arrived at my studio around 10:30. so you will understand if, at 1:30Pm i'm feeling a little burnt out.
yesterday's fear has subsided, and i'm fully engaged in this new painting, which holds a lot of promise. my new roll of portrait linen just arrived, so i'm already plotting and planning the sizes and images for the next round of parade paintings. i had hoped to postpone my trigger finger hand surgery until after my november show, but it's hurting more and more, and my friend dan, (about whom i have written in previous posts and portrayed as a mensche's mensch), a well known and highly regarded infectious diseases specialist, assured me last week that my recovery will be swift. he's had the procedure 3 times, so he speaks from experience. it's my right hand, so i'll likely miss about 2 weeks of work. the surgery is scheduled for july 13th. my surgeon is a hand specialist at stedman hawkins clinic, known for their expertise in treating sports injuries, in denver, and does nothing but hands every day.
