i continue working on parade 25. today some critical changes took place, especially on the right half of the painting, where the richard serra sculpture has come to life and has gained an important presence in this painting, which is based upon a series of photos shot at MOMA.
the "unfinished" areas are just enough to remind the viewer they are looking at a painting, and not a view looking down of the MOMA interior. the two figures deliberately stand out. as such, they are events in a composition, as well as two anonymous men walking next to a serra sculpture. but the vastness of the space they traverse is accentuated by serra's piece. cut & paste this link to watch a short video of serra walking us through his process, shot in his studio in 2000. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-mBR26bAzA
