1/5/14 ΜΙΑ ΚΑΙ ΈΞΩ! (IN ONE SHOT!) : "parade 20" / by Philip Tarlow

i've mentioned in previous posts that my preference in executing oils of this size: 16x16" is to do them in one shot. it doesn't always happen, but it did today. the extraordinary surface of the quadruple primed artfix L84U portrait linen is one of the elements that makes this possible. painting "wet into wet" on this surface is like....what? .....effortlessly executing complex ice skating moves; a sensual, even sexual experience that embodies the essence of all my years as a painter. interesting to note that  my experience of time was altered. i felt like i had been painting for 3 or 4 hours, whereas it was just about an hour and a half.
