below is stage 1 of a new collage, 18x48", as yet un-named, and based as are most, upon plein air paintings i've done over the past decade. the map mounted on the left is one of the andros, greece maps sent to me by my son dimitri from athens. scroll down for the alice neel conversation. if you have tried unsuccessfully to post comments on this blog, i'm working on it. i'm waiting for a response from squarespace tech support.
TODAY: i may search for a new b.l.u. photo to work from & stretch a few larger canvases to make some abstracted plein air collages. it's another gorgeous colorado day, but too cold for plein air painting, so that's it till the spring. more once i'm in the studio......
when the dust has settled, alice neel will be widely recognized as one of the american masters of the 20th c. not that she is unknown to the art loving public, but i do feel she is under appreciated. BELOW: 4 examples of her work. upper right: the cover of alice neel, by patricia hills (abrams). lower right my old dear friend, the late henry geldzahler. upper right: a late career self portrait: one of the truly masterful self portraits in the history of art.
gotta get back to work stretching....more later about alice neel.
1:28pm update: stretching canvas for new abstract collages. i need to move my body after doing all those 16x16 b.l.u. series, then i'll return to them. these larger format collages allow me to move, make big strokes, cut, glue, scrape.....
