10/21/14 yesterday's plein air painting, 16x16" and "meet the candidates" / by Philip Tarlow

10:30 am: below is the plein air painting i made yesterday afternoon at the creek. i have more pics, which i'll share later today. if you check out previous plein air paintings under the drop down menu works, then plein air, and then go to recent collages, also under works, you'll see an interesting relationship in the use of space, the shapes and marks. i would say that the creek is now an integral part of my vocabulary or language; something i've been moving towards for decades.

more about this later, gotta run.....

1:15 pm: just back from a gathering celebrating the life of local sculptor harriet johns, who died last week & was cremated early this morning. it was beautiful, and a rare opportunity to connect with all of us quiet, monastic crestonians.

representative works celebrating the beauty of the everyday, by the 4 artists participating in the athens school exhibition being planned, which will take place at the hellenic museum, melbourne, australia.

so as promised, more pics from yesterday on row 2. notice how precariously close the easel is to the creek. easy to understand why it tipped over & fell in the other day. the easel was slightly damaged, but still works. this easel originally belonged to my former mother-in-law, niki karagatsi, in athens, greece. her name is still written on the wood. for more about niki, who is one of the 4 artists, including myself, featured in the exhibition i'm helping to curate at the melbourne hellenic museum in australia. go to my story page (click on STORY in the column to the right) to read more about niki and about that period in modern greek art.

MEET THE CANDIDATES

mikela organized and hosted a meet the candidates event yesterday afternoon at the cloud cafe in crestone. attendees were able to meet some of our local candidates running in the upcoming election, ask questions & learn about issues, both local and state. mikela was great at providing information about important issues and what a yes or no vote on key issues might mean .

next wednesday senator udall will be coming to town briefly on a rare visit, also to be held at the cloud cafe. below, a few photos from yesterdays event.
