6/7/13 gui creek reworked / by Philip Tarlow

i had thought this painting was resolved. we took a 3 day trip to vail & aspen, and when we returned i was able to see it with fresh eyes. it just wasn't there. too busy, with no central focus and coherence.

so yesterday & today i did a radical rework, trying not to be attached to beautiful passages and giving greater consideration to the whole. i feel like it worked, and this final (?) version maintains the delicate balance between suggestive shapes & marks, active space, and color. with each successive painting in this series, i feel i have moved closer to my vision of creating an abstract language of visual signs that equal landscape, without specifically describing it.
