ceramics / by Philip Tarlow

today i worked on the 1st in a group of ceramic pieces made by susan watt of houston, texas, with whom i have been collaborating. we brought back a number of pieces she had recently completed in december, 2012. she has pit fired this piece by embedding it in the embers of a fire she built outside her studio.

as a result, they have some really exquisite markings which bring to mind pompeian frescos or prehistoric cave paintings.

when i have completed this grouping, we'll drive them back down to houston, along with the 12 new paintings i've made since december, and deliver them to gremillion & co. fine art, where they'll be shown together next fall.

this piece is 20" high. below are six views of the piece.
