childhood book: under the magic umbrella. my copy, unbeknownst to me, was a reject, given to me by family friend junia, who was in a wheelchair & owned a bookstore. what i loved about my copy was that it had randomly occurring blank pages, as well as the fact that some of the pages were printed twice or upside down. for me, it was all part of the "under the magic umbrella" magic! junia, by the way, was otto's sister. to learn who otto was, go to my story page.

watch: i love watches & own 10. my favorite is my dubey & schaldenbrand aerodyn duo with 2 timezones and an indicator (on the left side of the dial) showing am or pm in the second time zone. in the photo on the right, the 2nd time zone is set for greece, which is 9 hours ahead of colorado. so the time is 6:20pm. i first saw the watch in the window of a watch store on madison avenue, nyc over a decade ago. unfamiliar with the brand, i first  thought, because of the design, it was a vintage watch from the '30's. the rock you see on the lower right is a crestone conglomerate. the custom crocodile strap is by abp, (atelier du bracelet parisien).

LEFT: 7 of the 12 watches in my collection.

the ball engineer master diver in the center has a GMT function, showing the time in a second time zone, as does the dubey & schaldenbrand and the panerai ceramica on the left, which also has a display back showing the automatic mechanism. the kenneth cole on the right shows the day of the week and date. the suunto, second from the right has too many complications to list, including temperature and barometric pressure and trend, altitude, second time zone, and much more.  the isobrite with the red control button and the ball on it's left have tritium tubes which give the numbers and hands a very bright lume at night and will last for about 25 years. i love switching watches depending on my mood and the occasion.

quote from contemporary artist: Theory has nothing to do with a work of art. Pictures which are interpretable, and which contain a meaning, are bad pictures. A picture presents itself as the Unmanageable, the Illogical, the Meaningless. It demonstrates the endless multiplicity of aspects; it takes away our certainty, because it deprives a thing of its meaning and its name. It shows us the thing in all the manifold significance and infinite variety that preclude the emergence of any single meaning and view.   gerhard richter, 1964-5
