2:21 PM: i felt the need to do a bit more on this painting but i stopped just now because i was afraid i was screwing it up. i’ll gaze at it some more and see how i feel tomorrow.

Met Adventure, 36x38” oil on portrait linen, as she looked following today’s modifications

1:10 PM: this morning i too Met Adventure to the next level. i simplified the right 3/4 og the composition, moving some goldfish down there, painted over the central figure with the red thermos and made some other changes, adding more white spaces, which brings it more into alignment with the smaller ones i’ve been doing over the past month or so. which i believe improved the overall painting

2:36 PM: yesterday i stretched a piece of 36x38” portrait linen with no idea what i might paint on it. this afternoon i started Met Adventure, inspired by photos shot from above of visitors to the Metropolitan Museum in nyc as well as other images including, as of now, a seated figure holding a red thermos, green leaves and a bowl of goldfish.

it’s an interesting beginning, and we’ll see where she goes tomorrow.

"playful marks" on day two by Philip Tarlow

playful marks, 10 3/4x14” colored pencil, crayon, gouache & collage on bristol paper

1:29 PM: i took playful marks to the next level, completely going over yesterdays version. now, two fermale figures dominate the composition. she’s not there yet, so i’ll do more tomorrow.

2:44 PM: today’s collage, playful marks, has no watercolor; just colored pencil and crayon. so it is, as the title suggests, a playful melange with lots of white space.

re-work of "Carissa Dances" by Philip Tarlow

12:40 PM: after gazing for hours at yesterdays version of carissa dances, I made some fundamemntal changes, essentially creating a new composition. carissa however does not at all appear to be dancing! not only that, but there are now two figures; with a smaller one to her left.

i love the simplicity and the colors, especially the blue on the lower left and the vertical blue stripe on the right. the entire thing would fall apart were it not for the orange leaf on the lower right.
