10/3/13 stage 2 of gaozong creek 72x38" / by Philip Tarlow

in keeping with my buddies in ancient china, my aim is to capture not only the outer appearance of a landscape, but its energy, life force, spirit.  stage 2 comes closer to that aim.

mid-fall is prime time for the pleine air painting i love to do at n. crestone creek. so the energy of the creek is never far from my consciousness.

i plan on going out again this afternoon. it's more challenging than it normally is at this time of year, since we've had some unusually heavy rainfall and the creeks are running high, masking the form of the rocks i love in cascading water.
