10/27 pleine air: n. crestone creek 16x16" / by Philip Tarlow

this is the simplest i've allowed these pleine air exercises to be. the relationship of forms and colors reminds me somewhat of morandi. as with his still life objects, each rock has it's own distinct personality, while being completely dependent for that individuality on the adjacent rock and the water below. as i gaze at the rest of this fall's pleine air paintings, filled with the movement of water over rocks, i love the extreme simplicity and stillness of this one, which of course couldn't have happened without the others.
